What’s Different at Your Library

All libraries are now open. Hours, services, and health rules have changed.

Services will be modified at first and will expand over time. You can pick up holds, browse, use computers, print, and get help from staff inside any library. All book returns and Self-Check-in stations are still open 24/7. (You won't be charged late fees until further notice.) However, we aren't returning to full service yet. Find out what will be different the next time you visit.

What's changed?

Health and Safety Rules

A new Washington State mask mandate went into effect on August 23, 2021. Masks are required for everyone while inside the library, ages 5 and older. Please let us know if you need a mask and we will be happy to provide it. Library staff are required to wear masks in all libraries and other King County Library System buildings.

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library at this time.

Libraries are operating at 100% capacity. Physical distancing is no longer required.

King County will require proof of vaccination or a negative test result to enter some events and establishments starting on October 25, 2021, opens a new window. Libraries are not included in this health order. This rule does not change our services.

Contactless Services

Curbside to Go pickup has ended. You can no longer pick up curbside holds, prints, or surprise bags at any library.

You can still pick up holds 24/7 in lockers at Bothell and Covington. We're actively working to expand lockers to more locations.

Hours

Hours have changed at all locations.

We no longer close throughout the day for cleaning.

You can find new hours on your library's location page.

Computer Reservations

Computers are available by drop-in or reservation.

Book Sale Shelves

You can buy used books at Friends of the Library book sale shelves at some libraries. Contact your local library for more information.

What isn't available, even now that all libraries are open?

Sunday and Monday Hours

Libraries are open from Tuesday to Saturday. All locations are still closed on Sundays and Mondays. Most libraries are open five days a week. A few libraries are open three or four days a week. Some locations have reduced the number of days or hours they are open each week.

Meeting, Study, and Conference Rooms

Meeting, study, and conference rooms are closed. You won't be able to book a room until further notice.

Events Inside the Library

No events are being held inside the library. You can attend events online and outside. Some are recorded. Check out our calendar for details.

Magazines and Newspapers

Magazines and newspapers aren't available for browsing.

Book Donations and Sale Events

We're not accepting book donations or offering Friends Book Sale events.

Volunteer Opportunities Inside the Library

No volunteer opportunities are available inside library buildings. Instead, several online opportunities are available.

We have distributed the staff we have across our libraries so that we can open every building. We will be working to expand hours and services as soon as we can.
