The Washington State Library will soon pause their free certification exam proctoring services. The last day to schedule an exam is April 30. They anticipate those services will resume in fall 2025.

You will still be able to obtain access codes for the following:
- Learning materials
- Practice tests
- Exam vouchers
However, you will need to find your own proctoring services to take their exams. Check out this list of nearby proctoring services.

Pre-requisites
- Complete a GMetrix practice test (in test mode) with an 80% score or higher. (Find the list of available exams and learning resources on our certification page.)
- Have a King County Library System card in good standing.
To request an Exam Voucher
While free exam vouchers are still available, free proctoring services are paused beginning April 30. Please explore this list of proctoring services in your area. If you are a student, check proctoring services at your school.
Email instruction@kcls.org with the subject line “Certification Voucher Request." You must provide the following information:
- Your name
- Your primary email address
- Your King County Library System card number
- Which exam voucher you need
- A screenshot or PDF of your practice test with score of 80% or higher
After you Request an Exam Voucher
- We will verify your practice test. Then, we'll forward your information to the Washington State Library. We’ll email your confirmation and next steps within three business days.
- The Washington State Library will provide your voucher.
- You may use your voucher to schedule an exam with a proctoring site of your choice. Please explore this list of proctoring services in your area. If you are a student, check proctoring services at your school.

King County Library System card holders may take part in this program. The Washington State Library works with local library systems. They provide free certification vouchers to eligible participants. Apply for a library card. Or, connect with your local Washington State library to find out how you can participate.
If you are younger than age 18, you can take part in this program. Your information cannot remain on file more than 30 days after you take the test.

You may use your voucher to schedule an exam with a proctoring site of your choice. Your proctor awards certifications for passed exams.

All learning resources, practice tests, and exam vouchers are free to our patrons. You will need your library card number and PIN to access some resources. If you don’t have one, get a library card.

There is no limit on how many certifications you can get overall. We recommend that you study and test for one certification at a time. It can take an average of 4-8 weeks to study, practice, and certify.
