Social Media Policy

Purpose

The King County Library System (KCLS) uses popular social media to engage with our community in the spaces where they participate online. We share information intended to be useful and entertaining, to extend library services into new mediums, and to facilitate communication on library-related subjects and issues.

Statement of Policy

KCLS’ presence on social media platforms provides a limited (or designated) public forum to facilitate the sharing of ideas, opinions, and information about library-related subjects and issues. Comments and postings by library patrons do not necessarily reflect the official position of KCLS or its staff. All comments and posts are public records. Patrons are strongly encouraged to protect their privacy when commenting or posting on social media.

KCLS has the right to moderate, edit, delete, move or close any comment at any time without warning or explanation. Administrators will exercise this right narrowly.

All users participating on social media agree to abide by the rules of conduct as defined by the platforms. These rules vary by platform and continue to evolve and change. We encourage users to become familiar with these policies, as well as the tools available to protect their privacy and report content and behavior that violates codes of conduct.
