Veteran, Service Member, and Military Family Stories

Military Voices with StoryCorps

Listen to stories shared by veterans, service members, and military families. Honor their voices, amplify their experiences, and let them know that we, as a nation, are listening.

Attend the StoryCorps Military Voices Listening Party on September 7 at 4pm. This presentation includes stories shared by Washington State residents. Visit EventBrite to register and get the Zoom link.

Learn more about the StoryCorps Military Voices Initiative on their website.

Then, share your own military story. StoryCorps will record virtual interviews with area residents from September 14–17. Invite a friend or family member to interview you. Or, be interviewed by an event facilitator. Facilitators will also help guide the conversation and ask helpful questions.

To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-850-4406. Or, make an appointment online. If there are no available appointments, you can put your name on a waitlist. You can also record your story any time with the StoryCorps App.

Do you need computer help for your interview? Some libraries can provide a room, a tablet with Zoom, and basic technical help getting your interview started. The libraries listed below are providing support for interviews held September 14-16. To check availability, call:

After recording sessions, participants receive a complimentary copy of their interview. A second copy may be archived at the Library of Congress with the participant’s permission. StoryCorps may also share edited versions of select interviews on other channels. These include NPR broadcasts, podcasts, animated shorts, and other digital platforms. StoryCorps also partners with the local public radio stations. Those stations may air a selection of the interviews recorded. In our area, the partner stations are KUOW, KNKX, and C89.5.
