Beginning mid-September, OverDrive is updating how hold suspensions work for eBooks and audiobooks. The required change to the holds process will apply to all digital holds, whether you are borrowing through Libby, Sora, or the KCLS OverDrive website.
The change is designed so books will make their way to readers who are ready to enjoy them. That means waitlists move more quickly, and more stories get read.
What’s changing?
With this update, you no longer need to choose a specific end date for your hold suspensions. A hold can be indefinitely suspended until you choose to manually reactivate it. The system will no longer automatically unsuspend hold requests after seven days.
Once you unsuspend a hold request, your place in the holds queue is reactivated. This doesn’t always mean the book will arrive right away, but it will mean you'll receive the next available copy when your turn in the holds queue comes up. If no one else is waiting, you may receive your item immediately.
Please note: after a year’s hold suspension, your request will be automatically canceled.
