Cool Off at a Library with New Expanded Hours

An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Western Washington through Tuesday. We have expanded hours and services to meet the critical need for cooling shelters.

Temporary Hours

On June 29
 
Some libraries will open as cooling shelters on Tuesday, June 29 from 1-8pm. Those libraries will include the ones listed below. Expect limited staff and services. For example, at Bellevue, Newport Way, and Redmond, only the meeting rooms will be open for visits. At Burien, only the lobby will be open. This is a temporary change to help residents meet their cooling needs. Under normal circumstances, these libraries aren't open for visits yet. Thank you to our staff volunteers who made this possible! 
 

On June 28
 
Some libraries will be open as cooling shelters on Monday, June 28 from 10am-6pm. Those libraries include Auburn, Carnation, Fairwood, Fall City, Issaquah, Skyway, Tukwila, Vashon, Woodinville, and Woodmont. Expect limited staff and services. This is a temporary change to help residents meet their cooling needs. Under normal circumstances, all libraries are closed on Mondays. Visiting hours at the following libraries will expand June 25. You will be able to find more open hours for browsing or using a computer. Or, stop by to cool off in the air-conditioned space.

Starting June 25:

These libraries will be open for 7 hours at a time, instead of just 3 hours at a time. They will no longer close for cleaning throughout the day. All libraries that are open for visits will be open for 7 hours at a time.

Hours

Some libraries will be open on Fridays and Saturdays. Other libraries will be open on Fridays or Saturdays but not both.

Libraries that are open on Fridays will be open from 10am-5pm.

Libraries that are open on Saturdays will be open from 10am-5pm.

Visting

Water fountains will be available gradually, as we are able to open them. Please ask staff for assistance if the water fountain is not available at your library.
