Starting July 29, the way you access our databases with your library card will change. You do not need to do anything to prepare for this change.
What's changing?
When you log in to a database with your library card, you are logging in with a proxying service. A proxying service manages access to databases by checking login permissions. Our database links will be moving to a new proxying service called OpenAthens. OpenAthens is a more robust access management platform. It allows you to use resources when you need them, where you need them.
Why is this changing?
Technology for database services is advancing. We want to make it easy for you to get information on-demand, especially remotely. This change helps us keep up with developments in the digital services we offer.
Why is this happening now?
We're making this change now so that students have access before the new school year begins.
What is not changing?
Your experience won't change. You will still use your library card to log in to databases. There is no need for a new card or registration.
The databases available to you will stay the same, and accessing them at the library will be seamless. Log in to a computer at a library and instantly click through to any of our digital resources.
This change only affects databases that you log in to with your library card barcode and password or PIN. For example, Consumer Reports and Gale databases.
It does not affect how you log in to any of the following services, many of which have their own login.
- ABCmouse
- Ancestry Library Edition
- Career Online High School
- Driving Tests
- FreeWill
- hoopla streaming movies and music
- Kanopy streaming movies
- Lerner Maker Lab
- LinkedIn Learning
- New York Times
- OverDrive eBooks and downloads
- Physical Review Journals (Library Edition)
- TumbleBook Library
The location of database links on the website will not change. You will still be able to get to databases from the Online Resource section, such as the A-Z list of all databases.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for this change?
No, you don't need to do anything. However, the individual database links will change on July 29. If you have any direct database links bookmarked, you may encounter errors. Please update your bookmarked links. It's best to access databases directly rather than bookmarking. We recommend using our A-Z list of all databases to get to databases.
