Many of our libraries host book groups catering to a wide variety of reading tastes. Make your reading a social event by joining a book group near you or online.
Book Group Kits

Book Group Kits are bags containing 10 copies of one book. You can borrow each kit for 8 weeks, so your group has time to read the book and gather for lively conversations. Reservations can now be made in advance! Limit 2 reservations.
What kits are available?
Browse available Book Group Kit titles in the catalog, where you can sort and filter by subject, author, title, keyword, and more.
When you're ready to request a kit, visit our reservation system. Please note that titles in the reservation system can be browsed alphabetically only.

Book Group Kits include 10 copies of the same book in a tote bag, making them easy to use for book clubs and discussion groups. Kits check out to one group member, who is responsible for returning all materials.Â

Book Group Kits are reserved through the Book Kit Reservation Page (not the regular library catalog).Â
- A valid KCLS library card is required.Â
- Choose your preferred pickup library.Â
- Select an available 8-week reservation window.Â
- There is a 2-kit reservation limit. Â
- Reservations can be made up to six months in advance.Â
You’ll receive confirmation emails and a notification when your kit is ready for pickup.Â

Book Group Kits check out for 8 weeks and cannot be renewed. Please return kits on time and with all contents included so the next group can enjoy them.Â

Your kit is reserved and waiting for you to pick it up.  You’ll still need to check it out at the service desk before leaving the library.Â

The reservation system (LibCal) is separate from the library catalog, so you’ll be asked to log in with your library card number and PIN — even if you’re already signed into the catalog. Â

Kits may be returned to any community library, but they must be returned at a service desk (not in book drops or self-check machines). Please return the tote and all copies together.Â

If you’re missing copies when your kit is due, please return the tote and any books you have by the due date. Replacement fees may apply for missing or damaged items:Â
- $6 per missing copyÂ
- $15 for a missing tote bagÂ
- $75 if the entire kit is not returnedÂ
Returning kits complete and on time helps ensure availability for the next group.Â

Use the confirmation email from LibCal to manage your reservation. The reservation page does not allow users to search for existing bookings. If you can’t locate your confirmation email or are unable to cancel your reservation, please contact Ask KCLS. They will forward your request to the Book Group Team for assistance.
