How do I get certified through the library?
Learn, practice, and prepare to get certified:

- Read the objectives and use the learning and practice resources.
- Complete a practice test (in Test mode) with a score of 80% or higher.

Instructions are different for each certification. - Complete a Practice Test with an 80% score or higher.
Request a Certification Access Code to take online GMetrix practice tests.
Retest until you have a passing score of 80% or higher. - Register for a Certification Exam Session.
Follow instructions for how to Register for an online Certification Exam. We will verify your practice test. Then, we will forward your information to the Washington State Library.
The Washington State Library will connect you to your Certiport proctor.

Pre-requisites
- Make sure you have completed a GMetrix practice test (in test mode) with an 80% score or higher. (Find the list of available exams and learning resources on our certification page.)
- Make sure your computer meets Certiport’s technical requirements to take an exam.
- Make sure you have a:
- functional built-in or external webcam on your computer, and
- photo ID.
To request registration
Email instruction@kcls.org with the subject line “Certification Exam Request". You must provide the following information:
- Your name.
- Your primary email address.
- Your secondary email address (if applicable).
- Which exam are you interested in taking?
- Your phone number.
- Are you younger or older than age 18?
- Will you test from home, the library, or school?
- Do you have a photo ID (Government or non-government issued vouchers are accepted)?
- A screenshot or PDF of your practice test with score of 80% or higher.
After you request registration
- We will verify your practice test. Then, we'll forward your information to the Washington State Library. We’ll email your confirmation and next steps within three business days.
- The Washington State Library will connect you to your Certiport proctor.
- You must have a Certiport account to take the exam; create one free on Certiport's website.
- Read the Certiport Test Candidate Guide.
On exam day
- About 20-30 minutes before exam time, Certiport will email you. They will send you two links and instructions.
- One link will connect you to a private video call through a browser. This step allows them to confirm your identity with photo ID.
- The other link connects you to the exam session.

King County Library System card holders may take part in this program. The Washington State Library works with local library systems. They provide free certification vouchers to eligible participants. Apply for a library card. Or, connect with your local Washington State library to find out how you can participate.
If you are younger than age 18, you can take part in this program. Your information cannot remain on file more than 30 days after you take the test.
Reasonable Accommodation
Certiport and their Authorized Testing Centers provide the exams. They manage accommodation requests on a case-by-case basis.
To request accommodation, you'll need to:

- Complete their application.
