I am excited to announce that the King County Library System has been awarded a generous $80,000 grant from The Boeing Company to expand Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programs in south King County. Secured by the King County Library System Foundation, the nonprofit fundraising arm of KCLS, the highly-competitive grant will support a second ideaX Makerspace at the Federal Way Library. The first Makerspace, which opened at the Bellevue Library in April, has been hugely popular and is expected to draw nearly 12,000 visitors by year end.
As one of the Puget Sound area’s oldest and strongest community supporters, The Boeing Company will be helping thousands of underserved families access critical STEAM learning, such as robotics, digital media design, coding, and electronics, and develop 21-century workplace skills in high demand by Boeing and other technology companies across the region.
King County Library System prides itself on providing innovative, relevant, and equitable STEAM programming that meets the disparate needs of the communities KCLS serves. We are grateful to The Boeing Company for their support of this mission.
