King County Library System 2020 Library Levy

KCLS Library Levy Proposition 1

On February 26, 2020 the KCLS Board of Trustees passed a resolution to put Proposition 1 on the August 4, 2020 ballot to sustain library operations and maintenance, and increase spending for books and materials, library programs, technology and other services. KCLS’ current level of funding, within the 1% limitation set by state law, has not kept pace with inflation and does not support KCLS’ present level of service and collections.

It has been 10 years since KCLS has gone to voters to restore the levy rate. If approved by voters, the Proposition would allow KCLS to restore the levy rate to the maximum 50 cents per $1,000 of Assessed Value (AV), for collection in 2021. This would reset the base for future years.
