As many of you are aware, all of KCLS’ Summer Reading halfway prizes—free tickets to the Wild Waves Theme & Water Park—have been claimed. We know this will come as a huge disappointment to those who worked hard to earn this popular prize.
Each year, KCLS plans for an increase in Summer Reading participation. This year, Wild Waves Theme & Water Park generously donated 50,000 tickets; much greater than the number of halfway finishers KCLS has had in previous years. Although Summer Reading prizes have always been awarded “as supplies last,” we have never experienced such demand.
We know how excited kids get in anticipating a reward for their efforts and regret the disappointment this situation has caused. We will make every effort to ensure it does not happen again in future programs. In the meantime, Wild Waves Theme & Water Park is offering discounted tickets to KCLS’ Summer Reading participants (visit Wild Waves Theme & Water Park's website to find more information). And there is still opportunity for readers of all ages to earn a Libraries Rock tote bag and to enter drawings for a ukulele, tickets to Seahawk and UW Husky football games, and much more.
Again, we apologize for running short of prizes this year, but hope that you and your family will continue to celebrate reading at one of our many programs throughout the summer.
