Why can’t I wear a gaiter as a face covering in the library?

We are following CDC guidelines to keep libraries safe for patrons and staff.

All people ages 2 and up need to wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while in the library. This is required by Washington State's Safe Start guidelines.

Masks that fit snugly to the face are best for protecting yourself and others from COVID-19.

The CDC's site states that double layered gaiters may be worn. However, this requires staff to figure out if a person's gaiter meets CDC guidance. We do not expect staff to be responsible for making this determination.

As more patrons and staff get the vaccine, we will reassess what coverings are acceptable.
