A Loud Winter's Nap

This book is just plain adorable as tortoise tries his best to take a nap, but is foiled by his friends who help him discover winter is a lot of fun. Kids will love the onomatopoeias and illustrations.

The Mitten

This delightful Ukrainian folktale about a forest full of animals who find warmth in a lost mitten was always one of my children's favorites. Jan Brett's illustrations are superb and kids will love what happens when the bear sneezes.

Adults and children will enjoy this enchanting story of Little Girl's toys: Lumphy, Stingray, and Ball, and their adventurous day in the snow while she is on vacation.

The Snowy Day

This 1963 Caldecott winner is a simple story that perfectly captures the wonder of a snowy day in the city from a little boy's point of view. A classic favorite.

Katy and the Big Snow

Although the little tractor may seem a bit outdated, the story of how Katy saves a city that is snowed in during a blizzard is a timeless classic. A great read with young children.

Winter Dance

Winter is coming and the little fox in this sweet story is not sure what to do. He gets all kinds of advice from the other animals but nothing suits him until he meets another fine red fox.

Owl Moon

A beautiful story that captures the tranquility of winter as a father and his young daughter venture into the woods on a winter's night to search for owls.

Walking in A Winter Wonderland

What would winter be without some of its classic songs?  This book is based on the lyrics of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" by Felix Bernard.  If the song doesn't make you feel like celebrating winter, the cheerful illustrations will.

Winter Bees & Other Poems of the Cold

This beautifully illustrated book is great for children of all ages. Each two-page spread has a poem by Newbery Honor winner, Joyce Sidman, on one page and factual information about how the animal in each poem survives winter on the opposite page.
