What is the Literary Lions Gala?

The Literary Lions Gala at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue

Have you ever wanted to rub elbows with famous authors while supporting a cause you love? Then the Literary Lions Gala is the place for you! The KCLS Foundation's annual fundraiser, in its 26th year, is the library event of the year. More than 700 community members join together to raise funds for programs and services at the King County Library System.

Guests have the opportunity to have books signed by their favorite authors, shop at the pop-up bookstore, enjoy a delicious dinner, and mingle with other book lovers, all to support a great cause - libraries! In 2018, the Literary Lions Gala raised nearly $500,000 for KCLS, helping to fund the STEAM ideaX program. This year, the KCLS Foundation will raise money for the beloved Summer Reading program.

This year's event features New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Egan as keynote. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction, and a Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Fellowship at the New York Public Library. Her latest novel, Manhattan Beach, was awarded the 2019 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in 2018.

Eighteen prominent Northwest authors will be on hand for book signing, including Master of Ceremonies Nancy Pearl whose book of fiction George & Lizzie received rave reviews.

The Literary Lions Gala also features the debut of the 2019 Author Salon event series, with tickets first offered for sale exclusively to Gala attendees. Author Salons are intimate events with popular authors at venues around the Seattle area, held throughout the spring and summer. Attendees can get to know their favorite authors while enjoying delicious food and wine, all at a unique venue.

Tickets and more information is available at the Literary Lions event page.
