If you're looking for a new job, you know the importance of submitting a resume and cover letter that highlights your experience, skills, and qualifications. You also know that it can be time-consuming to prepare these documents. Luckily the library has a free tool you can use to make the process easier. Let me introduce you to Resume Builder, your new friend in the job search!
Create an Account
Go to Resume Builder. If you are at home, you will need to first log in with your library card number and password. Then you will create an account with your name, email address, and a password to access Resume Builder and all of the features described below. Everything you create will be saved to use later.
Make a Resume
One of the most helpful features of Resume Builder is the resume creator. You can use the step-by-step resume wizard to create your document, which walks you through the process and includes sample text and useful tips as you go. After you've added all of your information, the tool can format the text in a variety of different designs. Your resume will be saved for the future and you can print directly from the website or export in a variety of file formats including Word and PDF.
Write a Cover Letter
Similar to the resume builder, the program also includes a step-by-step letter creation tool. Choose the type of letter you want to write, then follow along with the prompts to complete your letter. Click on the Phrases tool for sample text that you can edit to fit your needs. All letters you create will be saved to view or print. There are also dozens of sample letters to view.
Search for Jobs
You can also search for jobs directly from Resume Builder. The job search feature lists jobs from all over the country. You can save specific jobs that you find or set up a saved search to come back to later.
Prepare for the Interview
Resume Builder includes 500 sample interview questions with advice about how to answer each question. In addition to the written questions, there are 25 sample videos with questions, answers, and an explanation for each. You can also do research about salary ranges or read job search tips and advice.
