Four Reasons Why Now’s a Good Time to Learn a Language with Mango

4. It's free with your KCLS library card.

Choose "Education and Testing" under the Online Library drop-down menu at the KCLS home page, and scroll down. Or go directly to Mango Languages.

First-time users can start with "Guest Access." Once you pick a language to explore, you can take a placement test. The "Hello, guest! Log in" option at the upper left of your computer screen will allow you to create an account linked to your e-mail. You can save your progress and continue to work at your own speed.

3. Mango Languages is smoother, safer, and easier to use than ever.

The software has had a major face-lift with more options for users, and more tech support. Create a family profile for up to five students, or download mobile apps for hands-free learning across devices.

2. Get a jump on your New Year's resolution.

Learning a new language helps keep you mentally fit and flexible. And the internet seems to keep making the world a smaller place. The more languages you speak, the more friends you can make around the world, and the more options you'll have when you go job-hunting.

1. And my number 1 reason:

Several years ago, before easy, interactive language learning software was readily available, I went to Brazil to visit my cousins. They had a beautiful new dog. "Oh," I said many, many times, "what a good dog." That is, "Aye, que bom correio." Unfortunately for me, the word for dog is cachorro. Um correio is, in fact, a post office.

Don't call a dog a post office. Start learning today.
