Phased Re-Opening

On October 6, 2020, Governor Jay Inslee announced an update to the Washington State Safe Start plan, allowing libraries to open indoor spaces at 25% capacity.

The King County Library System has reviewed the State requirements for in-building library service, and is developing reopening plans with the health and safety of our visitors and staff as top priority. Some of our libraries will offer limited access to technology and services inside buildings. Physical distancing and health protocols will remain in place.

It will take time for the Library System to meet all the requirements laid out by state and local public health mandates in order to reopen our buildings. More details will be announced when plans and dates are finalized.

Although the updated Safe Start guidance allows libraries to reopen at reduced capacity once all the requirements are met, libraries are being encouraged to continue providing services via curbside pick-up where possible to limit interaction within enclosed spaces. We will continue to offer Curbside to Go materials pickup, and new services will soon be launching, such as curbside printing and exterior pick-up lockers, to ensure patrons have a variety of safe options for accessing library services.
