It's summer! In the spirit of taking it easy, I chose Read a Book Recommended by KCLS Staff this month and let someone else pick my book. I asked for recommendations for witty romantic comedies (something like Eligible or The Royal We, both of which are perfect summer reads).
A friend and coworker suggested Public Relations, a comedy about a PR professional and her client, a charming British rock star. Rocker Archie Fox has a new album coming out, and the former YouTube star needs to revamp his image. Rose Reed is an ambitious young publicist. In a meeting with Archie and his manager, she suggests a fake relationship with an up-and-coming singer to give Archie a new level of cool. He agrees, but as Rose sets up dates, sends Archie shopping, and exchanges middle of the night texts with him, she starts to develop a serious - and seriously problematic - crush.
Public Relations is a ton of frothy fun. I especially the dug the details about Rose's job - how she measures social media impact of every new paparazzi photo, picks just the right table for Archie and his new "girlfriend" to sit at when they dine at the hottest new restaurant in town, and takes Archie for a private shopping trip at a hipper-than-thou boutique. It was exactly what I was looking for when I asked for rom-com recommendations, and it's something I might not have read otherwise. Thanks, Amy - great suggestion!
Anything included on a booklist or mentioned in a blog post counts as a Book Recommended by KCLS Staff, but if you have time, I suggest stopping in to your local library and chatting with the person at the desk - you never know what hidden gem they might suggest!
